Wilmoth Loretta Hammersley, 60, of Cincinnati, Ohio, died on March 6, 2007 at her home. Born in Boston, MA on February 12, 1947, Wilmoth was the daughter of Chalmers and Loretta (White) Peairs. Wilmoth is survived by her husband, Richard Hammersley, of Cincinnati, Ohio; her mother, Loretta Peairs of Westborough, MA; two stepsons, Richard Hammersley Jr. of Natick, Mass., Joseph Hammersley, of Haydenville, MA, two brothers, Frank Peairs and his Wife Fran of Fort Collins, CO and Hervey Peairs and his wife Margy of Westborough, MA. Wilmoth graduated from Westborough High School in 1964, and in 1968 graduated Phi Beta Kappa from William Smith College. She then earned Masters degrees in both Library Science and Folkore from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Wilmoth worked for the Harvard Museum of Comparative Zoology, the Northboro Public Library, and the Norwich (VT) Public Library. She was also a self-employed technical editor for many years. Wilmoth assisted her great uncle, Paul Russell Cutright, in indexing and manuscript preparation for several of his books about the American naturalists. In addition to working at public libraries in Northboro and Norwich, Wilmoth was a lifelong patron and friend of public libraries wherever she lived. She served on the building committee for the 1981 addition to the Westborough Public Library. Wilmoth's interests included cooking, music, art, botany, and above all, books. Wilmoth was an avid reader and amassed a considerable personal library, but also touched the lives of many friends through her insightful book gifts and recommendations.
