Obituary

William Nathan Gilbert was born on July 24, 1921 near Clarksville, Ohio. He's the son of the late Carl Fred Gilbert and the late Lelia Mae (nee Elbon) Gilbert. He also had a brother, the late Leroy Elbon Gilbert. Bill graduated from Mason High School in 1939. He worked following graduation as a farm machinery mechanic and salesman for the Gumley Implement Company in Wilmington before farming. On December 24th, 1947, William Gilbert married Mary Emma Donohoo. They were happily married for 60 years. They have a daughter, Carol L. (Ralph) Abt of Blanchester, Ohio. A son, the late Steven W. Gilbert and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Gilbert of Brandon, Mississippi. Bill, with the help of family, farmed in the Second Creek community for over fifty years. During this time, he was a member and active in numerous organizations. He was a member of the Second Creek United Methodist Church, Past Master of the Clarksville Masonic Lodge #323 and Blanchester Eastern Star #221. He is also a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Cincinnati, Blanchester Chapter #153 of Royal Arch Masons of Ohio. He was a past board member and director of Clinton County Landmark, member of the Farm Bureau and the South End Ten Farm Bureau Advisory Council. Bill served as one of the first presidents of the Ohio Pork Growers Association which later became the Ohio Pork Producers Council. He was active in the local and county historical societies, member of the Blanchester Rotary Club and the Blanchester Senior Citizens. Bill has four grandchildren; Kimberly (James) West, Shari (Chad) Barber, Kevin (Shannon) Abt and Rachel Gilbert. He also has 10 great-grandchildren; Cameron and Zachary West, Trenton and Taylor Barber, Madison and Brynn Abt, Destiny and Brandon Gilbert and Chance and Hannah Coker. Pallbearers for William Gilbert: Ronny Donohoo, Fred Gilbert, Charles Vance, Kevin Abt, Chad Barber and Jim West. Reverend Gerald Duecker, Second Creek United Methodist Church, will be officiating the services.
