IN LOVING MEMORY OF
William Grayson
Fisher, Jr.
November 27, 1941 – November 20, 2024
William G. Fisher, Jr., of Cumberland, Maryland, entered eternal rest on November 20, 2024, just days shy of his 83rd birthday.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, and friend, he leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and unwavering commitment to his family and community.
Born on November 27, 1941, to William G. Fisher, Sr., and Dorothy Ann Chorpenning, Bill grew up in Cumberland with a passion for learning and a heart full of determination. After graduating from the University of Maryland, he answered the call to serve his country, attending Officer Candidate School and embarking on a distinguished 22-year career in the United States Navy. Rising to the rank of commander, he exemplified leadership, courage, and dedication until his retirement.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved parents and brother, Lawrence Charles Fisher. He is survived by his cherished wife, Wendy Lee Fisher, whose love and partnership were the cornerstone of his life. Together, they created a beautiful, blended family that was his great pride and joy.
He is lovingly remembered by his children: Michele (Bill) Schmidt, Jennifer (Craig) Alsheimer, Cynthia (Brad) Griffin, Christopher (Christine) Fisher, and Katy Marie Fisher and their mother, Ann Marie Fisher; his stepchildren, Alex Flenner and Kelly (George) Riechman; and his sister, Dorothy Ann (Greg) Thompson. He was a proud uncle to his nephew, Jeremy (Hope) Thompson.
Bill's legacy lives on through his 13 grandchildren: Michael (Jackie), Joseph (Catherine), Madison, Jared, Bailey, Matthew, Karah, Samuel, Chip, Gracen, Karleigh, Travis, and Gabriel; and one precious great-grandchild, Hazel Ruth and one great-niece Anneliese
In his retirement, Bill found fulfillment in life's simple pleasures: spending time with his family, scuba diving, fishing, and giving back to those in need. He was a passionate advocate for the homeless, dedicating countless hours to volunteering and making a difference in the lives of others. A proud member of the Knights of Columbus, he exemplified the values of faith, charity, and service. Bill's gentle spirit, unwavering integrity, and selfless love touched all who knew him. His laughter, wisdom, and kindness will be deeply missed and forever treasured. He entered heaven with grace and peace, greeted by those who had gone before him.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held to honor his remarkable journey. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Our Daily Bread charity for the homeless, continuing Bill's mission of compassion and care.
