William “Bill” R. Hudson of Oregonia, OH, passed away unexpectedly while traveling to a senior softball tournament in Mesquite, NV on September 30, 2026, at the age of 88. Bill was born on April 29, 1938, in New Richmond, OH.
Bill was the beloved husband of 40 years to Beverly (nee Johnson) Hudson, loving father of Dawn (David) Hudson-Smith and Dana (John) Kelly, proud grandfather of Lauren Smith, William “Liam” Smith, Kaity Kelly and Jack Kelly, dear brother of Marianne West, Linda Myrick and the late George Hudson, Richard Hudson and Louis “Bimbo” Hudson, cherished son of the late George Arthur and Frances (nee Jackson) Hudson. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and many dear friends.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army, retiring with the rank of Command Sergeant Major. During his military career, he continued serving others as a civil servant for more than 20 years. Bill had a lifelong love of softball and baseball and was honored with induction into the Senior Softball Hall of Fame in 2013. He generously shared his knowledge and passion for sports by coaching youth softball and baseball for over a decade. When he wasn't on the ball field, Bill could often be found bass fishing, bowling or enjoying time in Santee and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. He also loved to dance, especially Bebop and the Shag, bringing energy and joy wherever he went. Bill remained active throughout his life, enjoying most his grandkids, his Harley Davidson motorcycle, his travels, and his vast network of friends.
Friends will be received from 11 AM to 1 PM on Friday, November 20 at Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 1668 St. Rt. 28, Goshen, where a military honor service will begin at 1 PM followed by a memorial service at 1:15` PM on Friday.
A private graveside will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery at a later date.
