Virginia Joanne Awe
February 19, 1930 - June 4, 2020
Hear my prayer, O God; don't turn away my plea!
Listen to me and answer me; I am worn out by my worries.
I wish I had wings like a dove. I would fly away and find rest.
Psalm 55: 1-2, 6
Virginia Joanne Awe, 90, known as Jo, passed away peacefully on June 4, 2020. She was born in Columbus, Ohio on February 19, 1930 to Fred and Mathilda Boehm. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Madelyn Huiss, her husband, John F. Awe, her son, John F. Awe Jr. and her son-in-law, Victor Robert Cook (Bob). She is survived by her two daughters Kimily Crea (Michael), Madelyn Cook, and her one niece, Rebecca Emerson (Thomas).
Grandma Jo loved all her 6 grandchildren: Brian Crea, Stefani (Crea) Repola - husband Cheston, Lisa Crea, Jason Crea, Corrina (Cook) Riley - husband Will, and Lea (Cook) Walker - husband Bill. She was also blessed with 6 wonderful great grandchildren: Sara, Leah, and Kerri Repola, Tyler and Carly Walker, and Benjamin Riley.
"Coach Jo" was very proud of her 36 years being poolside. She developed many fast swimmers in her day and had lots of fun doing it. She also was a math teacher for many years and prided herself in helping kids solve problems. After coaching and teaching, she became a telemarketer (Highlights for Children) and was always winning motivational prizes for the most sales. She liked to help out at church whenever she could, feeding the homeless, and helping with their gigantic tag sale.
Jo loved talking to her neighbors and taking them goodies. She liked feeding all the wildlife in her yard daily, birds and squirrels alike. She would sit and listen to the songbirds, especially the cardinals, while sipping on iced tea. She was the ultimate animal lover and cared for many dogs and cats in her lifetime. She will be missed!
