Thurman Brooks Rice, age 87, passed away Friday, April 12, 2013.
Mr. Rice grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana. He served as a 1st Lieutenant Navigator on a B-29, in the 468th Bomb Group of the 58th Wing of the 20th Air Force stationed on Tinian Island in the Marianas in the Pacific during World War II.
After the war, he continued his education, receiving a B.A. degree from DePauw University in 1949 and a B.S., C.E. degree from Purdue University in 1951, and became a professional structural engineer. He served as an engineer in various Cincinnati companies from 1951 to 1983. In 1983, he moved to St. Mary's County, Maryland, where he served as an engineer for another 24 years. In 2007, Mr. Rice moved back to Cincinnati to be nearer to family members.
Mr. Rice was preceded in death by his two wives, Margaret Keller Rice in 1981 and Agnes Evans Graves Rice in 2007; a sister, Louise R. McIntyre; and two brothers, Robert C. Rice and Reed P. Rice. He is survived by a brother, James A. Rice from Indianapolis, IN; three children, Stephen K. (Trudy) Rice from Lusby, MD, Kirk E. (Barbara) Rice from Sunman, IN and Rebecca R. (Michael) Schulte from Loveland, OH; and two step-children, Darlene (Alan) Brinkley from Ocala, FL, and Elise Graves from Tall Timbers, MD. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, three step grandchildren, one great-grandchild and two step great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Bible Church 8130 E. Kemper Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45249, where family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until time of service.
Interment Spring Grove Cemetery, Cincinnati.
