Obituary

Sylvia Anne Frederic McAuliffe passed away peacefully on October 2, 2020, in Cincinnati, Ohio, surrounded by her family. Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband of forty-seven years, Raymond Joseph McAuliffe. She was the daughter of Fred G. and Elizabeth S. Frederic of Farmington, Maine and DeLand, Florida. She was 82 years old. Born in Farmington, Maine, Sylvia was graduated from Farmington High School, class of 1956. She was graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Portland, Class of 1959, and was a Registered Nurse, working in Maine, West Virginia, Ohio and Florida. She was a certified Red Cross Nurse and volunteered for many years in various blood bank programs in the many states in which she lived. Sylvia loved music and sang, played the violin and piano. She was a violinist in the Portland, Maine Symphony Orchestra (1956-1959), and served as a church pianist for over 25 years. She was active in many different organizations on both local and national levels, and her memberships and service include: Daughters of the American Revolution (state chairmanships in West Virginia and Louisiana); United States Daughters of 1812; National Society New England Woman; Society of Mayflower Descendants; National Society Colonial Dames XVII Century (Honorary Vice President General for life, past Second Vice President General, etc.); Daughters of the American Colonists; Dames of the Court of Honor; Daughters of Colonial Wars, Inc.; The Huguenot Society, Inc.; National Society Magna Charta Dames and Barons; Society of the Friends of St. George's; Descendant Member of the Knights of the Garter; Sovereign Colonial Society Americans of Royal Descent; Colonial Order of the Crown-Charlemagne; and Plantagenet Society. She was a member of National Association of Parliamentarians, and served as Parliamentarian for several organizations. She was a P.E.O. Sylvia and Ray were antique dealers and did shows in Delaware, Ohio, and Florida. They were collectors of antique French paperweights, Early American and pressed glass, art glass, and Old Ivory China. Sylvia is survived by her two daughters: Anne Marie Sheckels and MaryBeth Huntington, and her son in law Donald Ellis Huntington, III; grandchildren Cameron Elizabeth Butler, (husband Luke Christian Butler), Henry Joseph Huntington, Abraham McAuliffe Sheckels and Silas Raymond Shekels; great grandchildren William Ellis Butler and Jack Bennett Butler. Sylvia will be laid to rest in DeLand, Florida, next to her husband Ray.
