IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Suzanne R.
Montgomery
October 14, 1951 – December 17, 2022
Suzanne R. Montgomery (nee Fleischer) of Montgomery, Ohio passed away unexpectedly on December 17, 2022 at the age of 71. She was the beloved wife of the late Patrick Montgomery, whose loss she mourned daily, and cherished mother of Beth Montgomery and Matthew Montgomery.
As the oldest child of Richard and Eva (Wolfe) Fleischer (both deceased), she often expressed appreciation for the secure and stable early life her parents gave herself and four siblings from which to launch. She followed her parents' example and nurtured many traditions for her family; quite a few centered around cooking, baking, and celebrating holidays throughout the year. For many years she generously hosted the extended Fleischer Family Christmas gathering at her house, and at the time of her death her home was beautifully decorated for her favorite time of year – "Christmas Forever."
Suzy graduated from Miami University in 1974 and began her teaching career in 7th-8th grade English that fall at Sycamore Junior High, from which she retired in 2005. In addition to sharing her love of literature with her students, she also shared her passion for musical theater and directed or produced more than 15 student shows during her tenure, a true labor of love. Following her retirement from teaching she enjoyed working at Cooks Wares in Montgomery where she indulged her keen interest in culinary pursuits and created another circle of friends.
Suzy had many interests and was always full of conversation on a variety of topics. She enjoyed discussing recent books, movies, and tv shows she had watched or read. She diligently followed and rooted for local professional, college, and high school sports teams. She loved theatre, attending shows at the Aronoff, Playhouse in the Park, CCM, and at area high schools. She was a newshound, spending most mornings reading The Enquirer cover-to-cover and keeping up with news alerts throughout the day. She also spent more than 45 years as a mom to a continuous procession of black and gray cats that began with her beloved Mischa. Finn and Sophie (along with granddog Charlie) are missing her today.
A resident of Montgomery/Symmes Township for more than 40 years, Suzy was deeply immersed in the community. She almost always ran into someone she knew at the grocery store. She continued to enjoy Sycamore schools' sports wins in her retirement. Her circle at Sycamore Presbyterian Church have fond memories of Suzy singing in the choir, attending Bible Study, and directing Christmas pageants over the years.
She kept her entire family close through word and deed. She was the loving sister of Patty (Mike) Matthews, Steve (Mary Ann) Fleischer, Jenny (Joe) Ely, and Lisa (the late Joe) Stofan. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews, and enjoyed relationships with cousins on both sides of the family.
Above all, Suzy delighted in the life of her family. She adored following her children's athletic and artistic interests. She supported them endlessly.
Suzy was friendly, genuine, and compassionate, and encouraged others to be the same through her daily example. She had a vibrant presence and laughed often. She was well-loved by her family, friends, and community, and is dearly missed.
The family asks that those who are interested may make a donation to the charity of their choosing in Suzy's memory.

We will begin with a visitation at 12:00 noon with the service following at 1:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to a nearby informal gathering after the service at a location chosen by Suzy's family.
