Beloved husband of the late Mary Jane (nee Brown) McDowell, loving father and father-in-law of Stephanie and William Smith, proud grandfather of Stephen David Smith of Landen OH, Susan Smith of Kings Mills, OH, the late Andrew Smith formerly of Brownsburg, IND., and Capt. John Smith, USAF of England, dear great grandfather of Evan Smith of Brownsburg, IND., and Hannah Smith of Landen, OH. McDowell was a 1933 graduate of Kings Mills High School, later worked on the school board for 16 years, and also ran McDowell's Grocery for almost 40 years.
