Obituary

L. Stephen passed away on Thursday, November 3rd, 2005 in Los Angeles, CA. He was born on October 14, 1957 in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is survived by his mother Marjorie, his brother Rodger, his sister-in-law Susan, his five nephews Jack, Peter, Connor, Michael, and Spencer, and his niece Jeannie. His father, Louis, passed away in December of 2003. Stephen worked for over 15 years as an executive in information technology for FTI Consulting, General Electric (NBC) and Procter & Gamble. He had a Masters in Comparative Literature from Washington University in St. Louis, MO, a BS in Industrial Engineering and a BA in French from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. Stephen was a citizen of the world, with friends, colleagues, and family in every time zone. He lived in France, Venezuela, and Brazil, and the U.S. at various points in his life, and was fluent in several languages, including French, Spanish, and Portuguese. His home was full of treasures he'd collected while traveling the world, whether from a store in Brazil, or some little shop in LA. He had a rare blend of business intellect and artistic flair. He was a well-educated and accomplished business person with an incredible work ethic. He had a unique ability to define the details while also being able to see the big picture, and he was passionate about attending to both. He also had a great appreciation of the arts. His music tastes ranged from contemporary to classics to the blues, with vocalists Sarah Vaughan and Billie Holiday sharing a special place on the shelf. He was incredibly well read and had a large library containing books of literature, architecture and photography. His favorite book was Madame Bovary, which he'd read at least ten times. He had a wicked sense of humor; a good joke delighted him, and his laugh would please the teller as much as the joke had amused him. He enjoyed his life and celebrated it in some way, every day. He was true, loyal, loving, trusting, supportive and respectful. Whether you spoke with him once a day, once a month or once a year, you got the same feeling of connection and could pick up right where you left off. Those who were lucky to be close to him, either personally or professionally, were lucky indeed. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial gifts in Steven's memory be directed to the Society for the Preservation of Music Hall, 1241 Elm Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202.
