Samuel Lloyd Hicks , aged 94 passed away on August 21, 2026 at UC Health West Chester in Butler County, OH. Born in Westfield, NJ in 1932, he was a long-time resident of Loveland, OH.

Sam is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Peggy Bell Hicks; daughters, Jennifer Hicks and Erin Beamon; step-daughters, Kimberly (Chris) Hall Stansell and Kristina (Joe) Hall Lain; grandchildren: Meghan Parry Milne, Jenny (Ben) Hokuf, Jonathan (Cara) Stansell, Audrey (Michael) Hayes, Samuel (Ciara) Jenkins, Katelyn (Trip) Lain Chauret, and Courtney (Nic) Lain Manning; great-grandchildren, Caleb and Cadance Milne; Ethan, Logan, Hunter, and Addison Hokuf; Joy, Noelle, Luke, Micah, and Grace Stansell; John, Charlotte, and Adalyn Hayes; Logan and Micah Jenkins; and River Chauret. He was deeply loved by his entire family and will be greatly missed.

The University of Cincinnati was a long-held family tradition with his great uncle, Frederick C. Hicks serving as president in the 1920s. Sam graduated from the University of Cincinnati with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1955. He was a member of Beta Theta Pi and had many stories of his time at UC and his fraternity. He was a member of the ROTC, and after college, he attained the rank of First Lieutenant in the Air Force and Captain in the Air Force Reserve. He piloted the T-44, T-28, B-25, C-45, and C-47 during his time in the Air Force. Throughout his career he worked at Spencer Kellogg, Formica Corporation, and E.M. Science.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Gilbert H. Hicks III, and sister, Cicely Ryan, and parents Gilbert Henry Hicks II and Cicely Lloyd Hicks and his grandson in-law, Ian Milne.

Sam will be remembered for his love and service for the Lord, his unwavering integrity, and his friendliness and interest in people exhibited by his willingness to help, faithfulness in friendship, and wisdom through his life’s experiences. He truly walked with God, and what he lived in public was also what he lived at home. Everyone who knew him was blessed that he was a part of their lives.

Throughout his life he was a member of several churches in the greater Cincinnati area including Landmark Baptist Temple where he was the superintendent of Department 7; Faith Alliance in Middletown, Ohio; Gospel Baptist Church in Montgomery; First Baptist Church of Milford; and New Life Christian Church. In several of these churches, he was part of the jail ministry and poured his life into prisoners and even assisting them after release. His was a life of service no matter where he was.

Sam loved sports and followed them all. If football, basketball, baseball or even golf were on television, he could be found watching the game and helping coach the team. The Cincinnati Reds and Cincinnati Bengals were his favorite teams.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 129 N. Riverside Avenue, Loveland, OH 45140. Viewing will take place from 11:00 AM until the time of the service. Interment will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery, 13 Cemetery Rd, Milford, OH immediately following the service.

The family suggests contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
