Ruth Litfin Schmidt. Retired psychiatric nurse, former assistant professor at Yale School of Nursing during a time when that program and its faculty revolutionized the concept of a nurse's role and transformed the profession expanding its scope to the skilled providers of today died at her home in Milford, OH on Wednesday, March 18th.
Ruth was born Feb. 9, 1928 to Robert and Emma (Bansleben) Litfin. Early life was spent in CT. Then she lived briefly in Columbus, OH serving as director of Psychiatric Nursing at Riverside Hospital. She lived and practiced for 16 years in the New Orleans, LA area before retiring and returning to CT. She spent the last 7 years in Ohio to be closer to some of her family. A devout Lutheran, she was active the past several years at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Loveland, OH.
She is survived by 2 daughters, Ruthann L. Hoch and Dr. Marlene J. Schmidt, son-in-laws Jeff Hoch and Neil Frank, 4 grandchildren, Sarah and Alex Frank and Jacey and Rilee Hoch, and beloved sister Lois Turrell.
Funeral will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 101 S. Lebanon Rd. Loveland, OH on Friday March 27, 2015. 10 AM gathering, 11AM worship. Burial will be at the New Pine Grove Cemetery, Waterbury, CT in June.
