Obituary

Ruth Vera Dunlap, 99, peacefully passed away November 5, 2017, in Montgomery Ohio. Ruth was born Sep 13, 1918, in Mt Vernon, Ohio to William and Nellie Dick. She graduated from Willis HS in Delaware OH in 1936. Ruth attended business college, then Ohio Wesleyan University, and graduate from Ohio University. She and Lloyd Dunlap were married Aug 12, 1946, in Athens, Ohio; and to the union 6 children were born. During WWII Ruth served in the WAVES in Washington, DC, where she played French horn in the WAVES band. At age 95 she participated, as the only female veteran on that trip, on an Honor Flight to Washington, DC. She loved children, and nurturing them in education. From 1964 to 1979 she taught first grade at Maineville Elementary school. For several years, she tutored a Laotian family in English Second Language. In retirement, an avid reader, she volunteered at the Maineville public library and belonged to a literary club. She also participated in a local mission group, making bandages, clothing and quilts. Fond of music, Ruth played tuba, violin, French horn, and piano. She was a member of Bethel Murdoch Presbyterian Church, Morrow Progress Club, Little Miami Retired Teachers, Warren County Retired Teachers, DAR, and Retired WAVES. Survivors include daughters, Carol (Tom) Cooper, Denise (Brian) Gunder, and Gwen Romire; sons, Larry (Barbara) Dunlap-Berg, Ken (Kathy) Dunlap, and Ted Dunlap; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; Phyllis Biggs, special, dear care-giving friend, and dear friend, Melody Bain. Preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, in 1995, her parents, her sister, Phyllis, and brother Joe. She enjoyed a wonderful life, with many special friends and family. So grateful for all the special people who touched her life with wonderful care at The Lodge Retirement Center and Assisted Living, and Meadowbrook Care Center, and Hospice of Cincinnati. We loved her so much, and we have so many memories. We will miss her very much.
