Roger Thompson

Roger Thompson, 74, of Loveland, Ohio, passed away peacefully on September 16, 2026.

Born on September 11, 1952, in Sloans Valley, Kentucky, Roger lived a life defined by service, dedication, hard work, and devotion to his family. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and spent several years stationed in Korea serving his country.

Roger shared 52 loving years of marriage with his beloved wife, Delana Thompson (Sewell), who preceded him in death. Together they built a family founded on love, strength, and commitment.

Following his military service, Roger dedicated nearly 30 years to the Village of Lockland Fire Department. He served as Chief Engineer during the 1980s and earned the respect of his colleagues through his leadership and commitment to the community. He was promoted to Lieutenant in 1987, Captain in 1995, and later Assistant Chief, a position in which he continued his service with distinction.

Roger also devoted 25 years to the Great Oaks School District, where he managed building and maintenance operations. He took tremendous pride in ensuring safe and well-maintained facilities for students, staff, and visitors. His strong work ethic, dependability, and commitment to excellence left a lasting impression on all who worked with him.

Roger was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Delana; his son, Roger Allen Thompson Jr.; his parents George & Lura (Troxtell) Thompson his brothers, Donald, Joe Bill, Bob, Robert, Arnold, and Ronnie; and his sisters, Nancy Flynn and Bertha Corder.

He is survived by his son, William Thompson; his grandchildren, Sara Thompson, Hope Moore, Steven Brown, and Leeann Brown; his brothers, Mike and Wayne; and his sisters, Rita Hewitt, Lois Blankenship, and Jean Bullock. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, fellow firefighters, and coworkers who will cherish his memory.

Roger will be remembered for his steadfast devotion to family, his service to his community, and the kindness and integrity he demonstrated throughout his life. Whether serving his country, protecting his community, maintaining schools for future generations, or caring for those he loved, Roger approached every responsibility with honor and dedication.

Family and friends will be received from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 129 N. Riverside Avenue, Loveland, Ohio.

A graveside service will be held at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Sloans Valley Cemetery in Burnside, Kentucky, where Roger will be laid to rest alongside his beloved wife, Delana.
