Roger Baker, 79, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 20,2026, surrounded by the love of his family. While his family grieves his passing, they rejoice in the assurance that he is now whole, healed, and in the presence of the Savior he faithfully loved and served throughout his life.

Roger was the devoted husband of Joyce Baker, with whom he shared more than 50 years of marriage. Together they built a home rooted in faith, love, and family, leaving a legacy that will continue for generations.

He was a loving father to Ralph, Darrell, Carl (Shawn), Garrett, Shonda, and Steve (Briana). Nothing brought Roger greater joy than spending time with his family.

He was a proud and cherished Papaw to Brittany (Brian), Brett (Annika), Trevor, Nick (Emily), Zach (Ashley), Haley “Girl,” Madison, Marleigh, and Mila, and a loving great-grandfather to Isabella, Xavier, Tripp, and Windham.

Roger is also survived by his brother, Lawrence (Sue) Baker, along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dewey and Fannie Baker; his siblings, Robert Owen, Mavis, Willie Nell, Hellen, Joyce Lavene, Roy Edward, Janett Luease, Anna Marie, Aileen, Rick, Larry, and Ralph; his daughter Kimberly and by all those who had gone before him to their heavenly home.

Roger’s greatest love was the Lord. His faith was the foundation of his life, and he never missed an opportunity to share the story of God’s saving grace. He was a faithful member of Mission Baptist Church, where he dearly loved his church family and enjoyed worshipping and serving alongside them.

To know Roger was to know two things immediately: he loved God with all his heart, and he loved his family with everything he had. His life reflected kindness, generosity, humility, and unwavering faith.

Roger enjoyed many things throughout his life. He loved fishing—especially when he could spend the day on the water with his family. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, hunting, had a passion for music, and found great purpose in coaching. Whether it was baseball, basketball, bowling, or softball, Roger poured his heart into coaching his children and grandchildren. He wasn’t just a coach; he was a mentor, encourager, and one of their biggest supporters.

Roger’s greatest legacy is not found in the hobbies he enjoyed or the accomplishments he achieved, but in the faith he lived and the love he gave so freely. His example of trusting God, loving his family, and serving others will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him.

His family finds comfort in knowing that as Roger entered Heaven, he was welcomed by his Savior with the words he longed to hear:

“Well done, thou good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23

Roger will be deeply missed, forever loved, and joyfully remembered until the day his family is reunited with him in Heaven.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 1:00 PM (doors open at 12:30 PM) at Mission Baptist Church, 7595 Montgomery Road, Cincinnati, OH 45236.  

A Celebration of Life reception will be held immediately following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.
