Obituary

Robert Dale Thompson, 93, passed peacefully November 8, 2014 at Mount Pleasant Retirement Village in Monroe, Ohio surrounded by family. Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dorathy in 2011, his parents, two sisters and a granddaughter. He is survived by his three daughters, Jeanie, Marykay and Laurie, sons-in-law Andy and Kim, nieces and nephews, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Bob attended Beloit College for a time before enlisting in the Army. After serving his country for four years, he began work as a pattern maker at Atlas Pattern Works in Beloit. He later left the company to fulfill his lifelong dream of owning his own business and started BoDot Film and Graphics, which he operated until he retired. Bob was a civic-minded man: He gave of his time as an Explorer scout master, and helped produce films for United Way of Beloit, the former Beloit Association For Retarded Children, and the National Film Board of Canada. He was a lifelong member of the First Congregational Church, the Beloit Rifle Club, and the Civil War and Custer Battlefield associations. One of Bob's greatest enjoyments was traveling around the USA and Canada with his wife and daughters during their growing up years, but he also immensely enjoyed photography, woodworking and reading. In 2005, Bob and Dorathy moved to Ohio to live with their middle daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren. There they were supported lovingly until their passings, so close together in time. Many of us do or will experience the caring for an older family member in our homes and/or in conjunction with outside services.
