IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert "Rusty"
Saunders
October 12, 1936 – December 8, 2024
Mason, Ohio – Robert (Rusty) Saunders, a beloved husband, father, and friend, went home to be with our Lord on December 8, 2024, at the age of 88. He was born on October 12, 1936, in New York, and spent his life creating lasting memories and nurturing the love of those around him.
Rusty was married to Christine (McNally) Saunders, his devoted wife, with whom he shared 64 years of love, laughter, and companionship. Together, they raised a beautiful family, and Rusty was a proud father to their children: Laura (Alex) Aristizabal, Bob (Mary) Saunders, Steve (Kim) Saunders, Sue (Joe) Janowski, and Ken (Tanya) Saunders, thirteen grandchildren: Leslie, Allie, Elle, Drew, Jake, Brie, Emily, Mark, Anna, Claire, Noah, Sabrina, and Caleb and two great grandchildren: Greyson and Jackson.
Rusty enjoyed a successful and fulfilling career in the sporting goods industry, excelling in manufacturing, retail, and sales. His passion for the industry was more than just a profession—it became a source of joy and pride, fostering countless life-long friendships with colleagues and clients alike.
Throughout his life, Rusty was known for his warmth, sense of humor, and unwavering kindness and loyalty. He had a remarkable ability to bring joy to everyone he met, whether through a well-timed joke, a thoughtful gesture, or his genuine interest in others; he never met a stranger. Rusty had a passion for developing deep and meaningful relationships, and he carried that enthusiasm with him into his golden years through phone calls, text messages, "meetings" in the driveway, and outings with friends.
In addition to his immediate family, Rusty is survived by his only sister's (Carol Doyle) children and grandchildren, and a community of friends who will remember him fondly for his generous spirit and the many ways he enriched their lives.
A funeral mass to celebrate Rusty's life will be held on January 4th at The Community of the Good Shepherd at 10:00am with a Celebration of Life to immediately follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Rusty's memory.
Rusty will be deeply missed but will live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
