Obituary

Robert Lee Cowell of Wilmington, Ohio. “Bob” married his beloved wife, Gail, of 58 years on December 28, 1968. Loving father of Rob Cowell, Christina (Matt) Hathaway, and Stephanie (Aaron) Mackris. Cherished grandfather of Steven (Brianna Puckett) Hathaway, Tony Hathaway, Abigail Hathaway, Sam Mackris, and Gabe Mackris. Devoted son of the late Thurlow (Carol) Cowell and the late Maddalena Cardone. Dear brother of Suzanne (Stan) Weatherbee, Mario (Mary) Cowell, and Mark Cowell. Blessed cousin and proud uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Passed away April 4, 2026 at the age of 78.

Bob’s parents met in Naples, Italy, where his father was stationed during World War II for the US Army. Upon returning to the US, Robert was born and raised in Toledo, Ohio. His love of family and laughter brought joy to those who knew him, as well as the larger community. Bob was an Army Veteran serving during the Vietnam Era. He was stationed at Ft. Ord, California and was an ENT Medical Corpsman. Alongside his cherished wife, Bob’s love of life was expressed through an artistic career in wedding and family photography. And continued through the creative art of carpentry. His love for Jesus was contagious, his absence will be felt keenly, and the ripple effect of love will carry on for generations to come.

A Joint Celebration of Life honoring both Bob and his beloved wife Gail, will take place on Monday, August 10 at Faith Bible Church in Cincinnati, Ohio. With Visitation at 11:00 A.M., Celebration of Life at 12:00 P.M., and a joint Graveside service, including military honors for Bob at 1:30 P.M.
