Richard Kerry Simpson, known fondly as Dick, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2023, in Fayetteville, Ohio, just ten days after celebrating his 80th birthday.
Dick was the beloved husband of Bonnie Simpson for 44 years. Together, they raised two beautiful children, Kerry Lynn Simpson and Dorothy Anne Simpson (Mike) Cook. Dick was a proud grandfather to Alexander Scott Ference (Whitney Lesher), Isabella Michelle Cook (Christian) Woodyard, and Connor Michael Cook (Kaitlin Ross). The joy of becoming a great-grandfather was something that Dick was eagerly looking forward to in March 2024. Dick also leaves behind his half-sister, Hollis "Holly" Hudgel (Bud) Drummond and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Harlan, and Dorothy May (Shumard) Simpson; his sister, Jacqueline Jill Simpson Shank; stepbrother, Jim Griswold.
Dick's interests extended beyond his professional life, reflecting his commitment to his community and his faith. He served as the Past Commander of the American Legion Marion Post 179 in Blanchester, Ohio, demonstrating his dedication to his fellow veterans and his country. His involvement with the Blanchester Masonic Lodge #191 further underscored his commitment to service and community. As a Deacon of Pleasant Grove Community Church, Dick's faith was an essential part of his life. He also served on the Blanchester Town Council, working to improve the community he loved so much.
Friends will be received from 5-7pm on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 120 W Main St. Blanchester, Ohio.
The funeral service will be held at 11am on October 27th at Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home-Blanchester.
Inurnment will take place at Plainview Cemetery, Newtonsville, Ohio, where Military Honors will be held.
Memorial donations may be directed to the American Legion Marion Post 179, Blanchester, Ohio, 179318 E. Main St., Blanchester, OH 45107.
