Richard G. Morgan of Milford, OH., passed away on January 20, 2023, at the age of 87. He was born on September 6, 1935, in Glen Cove, Long Island, New York.
He spent his boyhood years in Dublin, Ireland and returned to the United States when he was 12 years old. The son of the late Frederick and Mary Morgan of Toledo, Ohio.
Richard was a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Toledo and after graduating in 1955 he attended night school to further his education. After serving in the United States Army, he started his first full-time job at the Toledo Mold Company. While working there he was very active with Local and Union affairs in the American Flint Glass Workers Union and was elected local Union President for 15 consecutive years. Although coming from a very small Local Union in numbers he was elected in 1973 to the position of International Representative at the International Convention in Denver, CO. During his years as Representative, he was a very good and successful Union organizer and was also known for his negotiating skills at the bargaining table. Richard was elected to the Office of First Vice-President of the National Union (located in Toledo, Ohio at the time) in 1989 and among many other duties and responsibilities served as editor of their monthly Union publication "The American Flint Magazine." He ultimately was elevated to the Office of National President in 1998. He retired in June of 1999 for health reasons. Richard loved Union work and often repeated over the 40 years that he faithfully served the American Flint Glass Workers Union; "That the best possible thing a working man or woman could do during their working years for themselves, and family is to join a Union."
Richard was married to his good wife, Donna, for 35 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; Fredrick and Mary (nee Grimmley) Morgan, brothers; Frank Morgan and Albert Morgan, Sisters; Rose Meil and Vera Donahue, daughter, Chris Mills, grandchildren; Kyle Bails and Brandi Tell and great-grandchild; Dwayne Scarberry.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna and four daughters, Cindy (Eric) Holdren of Quinlan, TX, Debbie (Jim) Hammer of Clarksville, OH, Dianne (Roxanne) Tell of Blanchester OH and Darlene (Matt) Roberts of South Lebanon, OH, one son; Dennis (Kandi) Bails of Batavia, OH, seven grandchildren; Justin Holdren, Charity (John) Pence, Brandon Bails, Whitney Hanner, Ian (Lori) Christen, Brittany (Cory) Christopher and Eric Tell, fourteen great-grandchildren; Ada Holdren, Gabriel, Shelby, Evan, Kaleb and Jordynn Pence, Landon Bails, Brayden Bayless, Emma Tell, Kayden and Cillian Christopher, McKenzie Sharp, Andrew and Kamyron Christen, one brother, Fred Morgan of Maumee, OH and one sister, Virginia (Al) Manzagol of Saline, MI. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and many dear friends.
Visitation will be held from 10 AM to 12 Noon on Thursday, January 26 at Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 120 W. Main St., Blanchester, where funeral services will be at 12 Noon on Thursday.
A burial will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery in Wilmington, OH.
