Richard Lee Miller, 71, of Martinsville went home to be with the Lord on November 20, 2014 after a lengthy illness with COPD.
Richard was born January 9, 1943 in Martinsville to the late Everett and Imogene Miller. He graduated from Martinsville High School in 1961. He was an avid sports fan and loved to play basketball. He started working as a farm hand at a young age. Richard served in the Army National Guard for six years. He retired from Brown's Distributors & Garage, where he delivered fuel oil. He was active in his community as well as politics. In 2013 he retired after serving as a Clark Township Trustee for 27 years. Richard recently became a Village of Martinsville Council Member.
Richard was one of a kind. He had a loving heart and an open door. He loved his children, grandchildren, and extended family with a great passion.
Surviving is a daughter Shelly (Paul) South, a son Nicholas (Diane) Miller; eight grandchildren, Tiffany, Katherine, Mariah, Orion, Keith, Paul Glen South Jr., Ericka, Emily, and RJ; five great-grandchildren, Serenity, Nevaeh, Peyton, Trinity, and Zander; a brother, Buddy Miller; two sisters, Marilyn Ferguson and Joan Miller; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Wayne Miller, Gail Miller, and Donald Miller; four sisters, Katie Miller, Betty Ramey, Martha Stewart, and Eleanor McCoy.
