Richard Samuel Johnston, 89 of Blanchester, OH died Wednesday January 3, 2018 at Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington. His wife Carolyn Blakeney Johnston, whom he married April 30, 1955, preceded him in death in 2007. Mr. Johnston was born April 24, 1928 in Blanchester, OH, the son of James E. and Marie Cook Johnston. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church since 1939.
A graduate of Blanchester High School, Wilmington College, and The Ohio University School of Banking, Mr. Johnston retired in 1998 from the Peoples Building and Loan Co. which he joined in 1963. He was on the Board of Directors of the Peoples Building and Loan Co. and also served as President until 1998. He previously worked at the First National Bank of Blanchester. Mr. Johnston was a member of the Blanchester Rotary Club and a past president. He was a former member of The Board of Trustees of Clinton Memorial Hospital and was past chairman. He served on the Blanchester Village Council. He served the Grace United Methodist Church in the past as Chairman of the Administrative Board, Chairman of the Trustees, Chairman of the Pastor-Parish Committee, Co-Superintendent of the Sunday School and Chairman of the Finance Committee. He served Clinton County on the Zoning Board of Appeals. He also had volunteered at Community Care Hospice.
Mr. Johnston is survived by a daughter, Lynn Marie (Joe) Gionfriddo of Landen, OH and a son, R. Blake (Tracie) Johnston of Glen Ellyn, Illinois. He is also survived by two grandsons, Brendan and Boyd Johnston, of Glen Ellyn, Illinois. His sister, Jeanne Johnston Neyhouse preceded him in death.
*Services for Richard Johnston have been rescheduled for 10am Monday, January 15th (please arrive to the funeral home by 9:30am).
The family is having a gathering followed by lunch at their home at 12pm with service at 12:30pm today, January 13th.
