Richard E. Schaefer, age 92, died January 15 2015. Beloved husband of Hilda Schaefer who predeceased him in 2000; loving father of Darlene (Stephen) Batson and Cindy Schaefer-Munz (Jay Munz); dear brother of Virginia Sullivan and Fr. Robert Schaefer who predeceased him in 1987; proud grandfather of Adam, Rhian, Christian, Elliot, and Spencer; great grandfather of Rhiannon, Rachel, and Peyton. Richard served in the Navy during WW II, stationed in Rhode Island and Fort Meyers, Florida. Richard and his young wife moved to Loveland, Ohio, where they remained until their deaths. He graduated from Elder High School in 1940 and was an avid alumni. Nothing pleased him more than reading success stories of Elder students in the newspaper. Richard worked for Allis Chalmers (retired 1984) as well as himself. He was an independent electrical contractor. Religion, family, and friends were his focus. While he could drive, he faithfully visited ailing friends. He was a member of St. Columban church, a past president of the Loveland Historical Society, and served on various Loveland City committees. He remained true to his principles until death.
