IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard Earl
Dugan
November 16, 1934 – May 31, 2024
Richard Earl Dugan (1934-2024)
Richard Earl "Dick" Dugan, age 89, of Maineville, Ohio, beloved husband of the late Jean (Bowman) Dugan, father of Jo Roth (Tom) and John Dugan, grandfather of Melody Roth, step-grandfather of Tommy Roth, brother of Pat Dugan, Fairfield, OH, and Tom (Linda) Dugan, Charlottesville, VA, Friday, May 31, 2024. Preceded in death by his parents, John B. and Agnes (Sundin) Dugan, and brother Eugene Dugan.
Dick was a 1952 graduate of DuPont High School in Belle, WV, and a 1959 graduate of the WV Institute of Technology. He served as a Firefighter in the WV Air National Guard and in the Air Force Reserve from 1953-1959. Dick obtained his Master of Education degree from Xavier University in 1967. A teacher of Upper Mathematics for 28 years at Sycamore High School, Dick was active in the Sycamore Education Association and the National Education Association.
Throughout high school and college, Dick played trombone, joining his Uncle Bob and Aunt Ginny Sundin in the Mason Community Band after retirement. When he could no longer play, he donated his beloved instruments to help students in the music program at Lebanon High School. In addition to playing trombone, he had an excellent singing voice and was always ready with a song or a joke to brighten everyone's day.
Born in Glen Rogers, WV, Dick kept a small "gentleman's farm" in Maineville while working as a teacher, and in addition to the many fruits, vegetables, and animals he raised over the years, he enjoyed beekeeping along with his good neighbor, the late Marion (Marge) Ackman. Dick was an avid fisherman and some of the highlights of his life were the fishing trips he took with his son John and good friends, including his friend for life Jim Thomas.
Since 2016, his years were spent at Otterbein Maineville, and Dick cared for his caregivers as much as they cared for him. They became his extended family, and he adored them.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lebanon Band Parents Association, 726 E. Main St., Ste. F #154, Lebanon, OH 45036 or online at:
