Obituary

R. Walter, born July 10, 1914 in Moenchengladbach, Germany, passed away on January 21, 2011. Walter was a Dipl.-Ing. and oversaw engineering development of one of the first jet engines ever to be used in airplanes. After WWII he was one of 642 German scientists hired to work for the United States Government as part of Project Paperclip. After fulfilling his contract with the U.S. government, Walter came to work for GE in Evendale for 22 years. He is credited with designing the LM2500 engine, which uses jet concepts for propulsion in the water, and which is still powering scores of frigates and destroyers for the U.S. Navy and many navies around the world, as well as commercial cruise liners. Walter was enshrined in the GE Aviation Hall of Fame for his efforts. He and his wife retired to Amelia Island Plantation, Florida, for 30 years and returned to Cincinnati in 2009 residing at Twin Lakes at Montgomery. Beloved husband of 68 years to Christa Anita (nee Weiterer) Brisken. Loving father of Andela (Joseph) Bischoff, Axel (Margaret) Brisken, Thomas (Susan) Brisken, and Elizabeth (Garry) Stanis. Proud grandfather of 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchild
