Phyllis Goetz, affectionately known by her 14 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren as "Peege", died October 1st, 2021, having lived with Alzheimer's for 15 years. She died peacefully with family at her bedside. She is survived by her 6 children, Rob (Di), Jan, John (Lisa), Don, Matt (Sheri), and Ellen (Rob); 14 grandchildren, Paul, John, Hilary, Sam, Max, Stephen, Katie, MacGregor, Allison, Ian, Brianna, Caroline, Jane, and Ava; and 3 great grandchildren, Lucy, James, and Augustyn.
Phyllis was born in St. Louis and relocated to Cincinnati when she married Robert J. Goetz. They divorced after 19 years, at which time Phyllis enrolled at Xavier University where she received a degree in psychology and later pursued a masters degree.
Throughout her life her interests were vast and varied. She immersed herself in the teachings and philosophy of Objectivism, was an avid reader, loved classic movies, music, and gardening. Phyllis was an accomplished seamstress and also devoted her time conducting smoke cessation classes.
In 1982, she ran for Governor in Ohio as a Libertarian candidate. After the last debate before Election Day, The Cincinnati Enquirer declared: "Goetz stings both rivals in final campaign debate". Ultimately, she was not elected but she remained active in politics.
A private family service will be held.
A celebration of life will be held at the Silver Spring House, 8322 E Kemper Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45249 on October 17, 2021 from 12-2 pm where friends are invited to join us as we toast Peege.
