Phyllis Brink Augspurger passed away in Elk Rapids, Michigan on September 23, 2020, at the age of 76. Phyllis was born on November 17, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana to Robert and Thelma Brink. She was the third child in the family, after her brothers David and Paul. Her parents ran a butchery called Brink's Meats, where Phyllis worked as a teenager. After graduating from Southport HS in Indianapolis, she attended the University of Indiana nursing school, where she earned a Bachelor and Master's degree in nursing. In 1965, she married the love of her life, William (Bill) Augspurger. She worked as a nurse in her twenties, as she and Bill moved to a series of midwestern towns through Bill's work with Corning Glass. She and Bill made lifelong friends in Wellsboro, PA and Greenville, OH, before settling in Cincinnati, OH in 1979. She left the workplace to raise her three children, Jon, Michael, and Susan, but when her children became school age, she returned to school and earned her doctorate in Sociology at the University of Cincinnati. She taught nursing at Xavier University in Cincinnati from the early nineties until her retirement. Phyllis was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and teacher. She loved spending time at Elk Lake in Michigan, and her grandchildren fondly remember making ice cream, tie-die shirts, and desserts with their grandma at the lake. She was as devoted to her dogs as they were to her, and she loved to sit with a good book and putter in the garden. Most of all, she was kind and funny and loved being with her friends and family: she happily played golf and bridge in retirement without a care about winning the hole or the hand. Her smile and laugh and constant support for her husband, children, and grandchildren will be dearly missed. Phyllis was preceded in death by her mother, father and brother Paul, and is survived by husband Bill, her three children, Jon, Michael, and Susan, her brother David, five grandchildren, and her brothers' children and grandchildren, with whom she remained close. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to People Working Cooperatively (PWC), a Cincinnati-based community support organization that Bill and Phyllis have supported for years. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 3 at 11 AM in the Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 129 N. Riverside Ave., Loveland, followed by a Celebration of Life at O'Bannon Creek Golf Club, 6842 Oakland Rd, Loveland, OH 45140.
