Obituary

Paul A. Sagel, age 55 of Dayton, KY, passed away suddenly on July 11, 2026. Throughout his life, Paul was known for his huge heart and generosity, charismatic personality, and his incredible and transformative innovations. He left a profound and lasting impression on everyone he met. He welcomed anyone and everyone in and could make people laugh with his hilarious stories and crazy antics. He was the life of every party and always brought the FUN to every interaction. He had a way of making everyone feel special, loved, and enjoyed helping people solve their problems. He was a truly self-less individual who cared deeply for his family, friends, colleagues, and strangers that he would quickly turn into friends.

Family was always Paul’s top priority. He was born on September 7, 1970, to his beloved parents Paul J. and Patricia (nee Creed) Sagel. Paul was a devoted and proud father to Jaci Sagel and Shelby Sagel; loving life partner and co-pilot to Elizabeth Keith; cherished brother to Leslie Sagel Hopkins and Terri (Doug) Witten; and fun uncle to Ryan Hopkins, Taylor Witten and Morgan Witten. Paul is also survived by Jaci's mother, Amy (Mark) Altemeier and Shelby's mother, Lisa Sagel, and step-dog Scout.

Paul was a 1988 graduate of Moeller High School and proud Man of Moeller alumni supporter (Go Big Moe!). He earned his degree in chemical engineering from the University of Cincinnati’s College of Engineering, where he was the recipient of the prestigious Herman Schneider Award for outstanding achievement in his field.

He went on to have a profoundly successful 33-year career at Procter & Gamble. He was appointed Victor Mills Society Vice President in 2016, the highest technical honor at P&G with only 12 members globally in the company. Paul was a prolific inventor and affectionately known as the "Father of Whitestrips," after inventing them in 1997. Paul had more than 170 patents and earned the Gordon E. Moore Medal in 2007 for the significance of his innovations. While Paul had many technical accomplishments, his greatest impact may have been on the countless people with whom he collaborated. He was a mentor to so many, encouraging new ideas and relentlessly building the company’s next generation of leaders.

Outside of family and work, Paul’s passion was boating. Paul found so much joy in being on the water with his boat motors running. Whether it was on Lake Cumberland, the Ohio River or South Florida, he loved to take people on boat rides and chase every last ray of sunshine. Paul was an avid Cincinnati sports fan who enthusiastically cheered for his Bearcats, Reds, and Bengals (which he was predicting to go to the Super Bowl this year). He loved country music and was known for singing, karaoking and always had the microphone. Paul had a strong faith and Heaven gained a truly special angel upon his arrival. He will be deeply missed but the profound impact of his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched.

Visitation will be at the Manor House (7440 Mason Montgomery Rd, Mason, OH) on Sunday, July 19th from 3:00pm-7:00pm. Funeral services will be at Christ’s Church at Mason (5165 Western Row Rd, Mason, OH) on Monday, July 20th at 10:00am and a Celebration of Life Luncheon will immediately follow at the Manor House from 11:00am-2:00pm. At 2:00pm, we will depart to Gate of Heaven Cemetery (11000 Montgomery Rd, Cincinnati, OH) for those that wish to join.
