Obituary

Paul E. Leiter of Loveland formerly of Ashland. Beloved husband of 18 years to Ann D. Abele. Loving son of Vivian L. (nee Brattin) Leiter and the late William Leiter, Sr of Ashland. Brother of Betsy L. Leiter (Rick) Johnson of Ashland and William "Bill" (Ludeen) Leiter, Jr. of Bailey, CO. Also survived by parents-in-law Richard & Mona Abele of Marietta; brothers-in-law Rick (Lauren) Abele of Naperville, IL & Adam (Jeannine) Abele of Cincinnati; nephews Ben Johnson of Ashland, Eric (Anne) Stoltz of Green Bay, WI; nieces Nicky (Brad) Manz of Morrisville, NC; Kathy (Matt) Schisler of Cary, NC; and Alexa Abele of Cincinnati; 2 grand nephews; and best friend Bruce (Jane) Burrey of Denver, CO. Murdered February 12, 2013 at age 65. Graduated from Ashland High School in 1965. Proudly served in the Marine Corps from 1966-1972 as a Sergeant (E-5) aviation electrician in Vietnam. He was a rifle expert and awarded: The National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with combat action, Vietnam Campaign Medal with Device, 2 Good Conduct Medals, RVN Cross of Gallantry with Palm. He retired from Verizon (formerly GTE) in 2002 after more than 30 years of service. He volunteered his time throughout his life: especially serving on the Board of the Ashland Little Brothers/Little Sisters program for many years, as well as individually mentoring several little brothers. More recently adopting a section and providing trail maintenance on the Little Miami Bike Trail and at Matthew 25 Ministries in Cincinnati. He was an active member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church of Loveland where he served in various capacities - scheduling of the Saturday night ushers, performing weekly maintenance as needed and cooking for the monthly Men's Breakfast. An ardent outdoorsman, he will be most remembered as a passionate bicyclist. He accomplished his dream of bicycling across the continental US in 2007. Also an avid explorer, he was fortunate to have traveled to all 7 continents and almost all of the 50 US states. Paul's wife and family will be receiving friends to celebrate his life on Sunday, February 17, 2013 from 1-5 PM at Jack's Place, Trinity Lutheran Church, 508 Center Street, Ashland, OH 44805. A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Saturday, February 23 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 101 S. Lebanon Rd, Loveland, OH 45140, where family and friends will be received from 10 AM until the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Trinity Lutheran Church, or AdventureCycling.org.
