Obituary

Patrick John Kern, also known as The Big Guy, Root, Pitter Patter and Dad, soared into Heaven October 29, 2025, at 61 years old. Patrick's priorities in Life were Family, Friends, Faith, Pets and Alabama Football. The order of importance changed depending on the day of the week-Roll Tide!

Patrick was born in Knoxville TN and soon was running the hills of West Virginia with his 5 siblings Richard (aka Killer), Michele, Tracey, Lisa and Angela (aka Panda Eyes). He filled his days riding ponies, teasing his sisters and playing sports.

His family moved to Dallas Pa where Patrick went to Grade and High School. He excelled at making lifelong friends, sports and 'taste testing' various flavors of Beer, while working at Kern Brothers Beer Distributor for his uncle.

He was soon off to college and found his way to Mansfield University. Following his passion for beer drinking, he joined the Fraternity TKE. Thankfully, he met his soon to be Wifey, Coleen, who made him realize he needed to get a job coming out of Party Town.

Patrick landed at Procter & Gamble in the field of IT. His love for P&G was immense, as he had the opportunity to travel the world and work with fabulous people from countless countries. And they became lifelong friends. The downside was many times he would forget to tell Wifey Coleen, Mother of his 4 Children, he was going on a trip for 2 weeks until the night before. Naughty Patrick.

Patrick raised his Family, children Ryan, Dillon, Madison and Halle in Loveland Oh. He coached many sports for the kids but was most known as Coach Kern of the St. Columban Bobcats. He stayed 10 years after the boys left the program because he

loved coaching. It may have also been his love of squeezing into a tiny Bobcat Uniform and his big melon into the helmet to scrimmage with the kids at the end of the Season. We will never know.

Upon retiring from P&G, Pat bought Lum's Fernbrook Inn, a restaurant that had been in his family for 50 years. He did not quite think it through as it was 9 hours away from Cincinnati, but Wifey Coleen held down the fort and commuted back and

forth to Lum's to see Chef Patrick. There he met more lifelong friends, fished and ate lots of North East Pizza & Wings.

To sum up Patrick in one word-FAMILY. His love for his Family included many people who were not by blood, but by love. His immediate Family is super sad he is no longer on earth. His children Ryan, (Erin & Grandson Nolan), Dillon (Kayla), Madison (Ryan) and Halle (Owen) will make sure to never miss an Alabama football game. His Siblings and Sister in Law's Families will always say Roll Tide with a smile. Most of all, thoughts of Patrick will always make their heart smile because he was a kind gentle soul.

If you would like to donate in his memory, please consider donating to two Rescues where part of the Kern 'farm' came from. Patrick never told Coleen 'no' so we filled the house with rescue dogs and cats. Frankenstein, Walter Jr, Kimbo, Godzilla, Geronimo, Chanel, Elsa, Angelica Pickles, Cleopatra, Caviar and Cashmere will miss him very much!
