Obituary

Patricia (nee Tuite) Flood of Montgomery. Cherished wife of 60 years to the late Thomas H. Flood. Loving mother of Stephen (Terry) Flood, Janice (deceased) (Michael) Willis, Paul (Brenda) Flood, Leslie (David) Hershberger, and Beverly (Richard) Podwojski. Proud grandmother of Christopher, Michael, Caitlin, Kirsten, Shannon, Laura, Matthew, Rachel, Stephen, and Sarah. Great grandmother of Alejandro, Caden, Braylen, Hadley, Carter, Colton, Quinn, Brynna, Sophie, Raegan and Sam. Eldest daughter of Andrew and Virginia (Lang) Tuite. Dear sister of Andrew (Patricia) Tuite, Beverly (George) Durkin, and Richard (Helene) Tuite.

Pat's childhood memories lie in the 1930s streets of Newark, New Jersey in a 3-family home, walking distance from Good Counsel High School where she met her husband, the handsome, funny Irishman, Tom Flood. Many childhood summers were spent at her grandmother's Manasquan, New Jersey shore home with her siblings and friends. She and Tom married in 1953 and their marriage was a long and happy one. They considered theirs a love story and were married for 61 years and shared a love of travel, golf, theater and friends who spanned the globe.

Despite 5 children and countless moves to new cities, Pat found time to go back to the university to feed her intellect and passion for learning. She hosted Great Books book clubs in the 60s, introduced her children and grandchildren to the community library in whatever city she found herself and was a weekly volunteer reading tutor for children in Over-the-Rhine in Cincinnati and in her Bonita Springs, Florida community.

Strong, practical and full of grace and kindness, Pat was dedicated to her church and community service. Pat and Tom were supporters of the ecumenical movement in the 1970s which reflected her openness in learning about other religious traditions. They were co-founders of the Community of Good Shepherd where she served in countless roles. In 1980 when Pat lost her beloved daughter-in-law, Patty and granddaughter, Jessica, she discovered a dearth of resources and co-founded the Good Shepherd Bereavement Group. She was the president of the Distaff women's group whose motto was "many hands make light work."

Pat died surrounded by family on November 19, 2022 two weeks after her family gathered to celebrate her 90th birthday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, January 7 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8815 E. Kemper Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45249 where family and friends will be received from 9 AM until the time of Mass. There will be a reception at the Remington Room in Montgomery following the funeral.

The family would like to thank Twin Lakes Retirement community, Jen Wanjiru, Homewell Care services and Bella Care Hospice for their kindness and dedication to our mother.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Pat's name to Catholic Charities Southwestern Ohio, ( https://www.ccswoh.org/get-involved/donate/ ) or 7162 Reading Rd Suite 600, Cincinnati, OH 45237, where her granddaughter is Mental Health Services director.
