IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pamela E.
Shuler
November 30, 1947 – May 15, 2023
Pamela Shuler died on May 15th after a 13-year battle with ovarian cancer.
She was the oldest of 3 children of Howard and Mary Jane Parker. Her sister, Cindy Heers and husband Jon live in Fla. and she was preceded in death by her parents and brother K.C.
Pam earned a bachelor's degree in psychology from BGSU where she was a member of the Swan Club - the university's synchronized swimming team.
In 1969 she married her high school sweetheart Wayne and they enjoyed 53 wonderful years together. They have 3 children Bill (Kathy), Matt (Tina) and Beth (Adam) Mele. She enjoyed every opportunity she had with her 11 grandchildren: Loren, Claire, Wade, Thomas, Gretchen, Noah, Krisztian, Ethan, Ellie, Milan and Sam.
In 1973 she and Wayne moved from Bowling Green to Cincinnati and shortly after found Sycamore Presbyterian Church. After visiting on a youth Sunday and hearing the teens confessions of faith, they realized this was where they wanted to raise their children. After joining Sycamore church, she became actively involved in youth christian education as a Jr. High's advisor, Youth Club teacher and director, and finally as a Sr. High's advisor.
While her children were involved in high school theater, she put her sewing and artistic talents to work by costuming the theater productions for many years.
In 2000 after 27 years in Cincinnati, Wayne and Pam retired to northern Michigan and found a new church home, First Presbyterian Church of Elk Rapids where they quickly became involved by first joining the fellowship committee and then jumped into Stephen's Ministry and served as an Elder for a number of years. She was also an active participant in VBS, bringing the Bible story station to life by dressing the part to the delight of the young participants.
Life changed quickly when she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2010. She worked on finding the positive with her diagnosis by: learning to accept help; make each day count; knowing that she is in God's care; and realizing that human control is an illusion.
She loved her horses, GG & Lucy, sometimes more than her children - as they didn't talk back!
Pam & Wayne were drawn back to Cincinnati with the opportunity to create a family compound to bring the family even closer. She loved that the grandkids could "run away from home and not cross the street!" Friday Night sleepovers and pancake breakfasts quickly became a favorite of the youngest grandkids!
She would tell you everyday that God Is Good.
