Dr. Nathaniel Travis Marvel, Jr. Beloved husband of 15 years to Cathy (nee Meier) Marvel. Proud father of Nate and Spencer. Dearest son of Elena M. and the late Nathaniel T. Marvel. Loving brother of Kathy (Candy Carrigan) Marvel of CA and Jon (JoAnn) Marvel of NC. Son-in-law of Herm and Mary Meier. Dear brother-in-law and uncle to many. Passed away August 31, 2018 at the age of 65. He will also be dearly missed by his large intentional family of beloved friends.
Travis attended medical school in Spain and completed his residency and fellowship in geriatric psychiatry at UC. He pioneered the role of geriatric psychiatry in nursing homes as well as inpatient units for older adults with mental illnesses. After being diagnosed with Leukemia in July of 2014, he began a four year battle, overcoming the odds again and again, all the while handling his illness with tremendous grace and a sense of humor.
Travis loved music, reading, rugby and spending time with friends and family. He especially enjoyed family trips to Suttons Bay, MI. His hobbies included playing music, stained glass and turning pens.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, September 8 at 11 AM at St. Columban Church, 894 Oakland Rd., Loveland, where friends will be received immediately following the Mass.
Deepest gratitude to Dr. Rob Cody and the Christ Hospital Oncology Staff for their care.
