On January 19, 2016 Michael J. Quinn set off from Cincinnati, Ohio to embark on his next great adventure. He died quietly holding the hands of his beloved wife and youngest daughter, knowing how much he was admired by his family and friends. A loving husband to Carolyn, adoring father to Shannon, Bridget, and Chelsea Quinn, dedicated brother, loyal son and a one-of-a-kind friend. Over the course of his 58 years here on Earth, Mike scattered his humor, wisdom, friendship and love over every inch of his days. His passion for his family, his community, and the outdoors will continue to inspire those who knew him.
Michael was born on November 19, 1957 in the Adirondack Mountain town of Tupper Lake, NY. The second youngest of seven brothers and sisters, his energy and imagination won him a special place in the hearts of many. He spent his childhood discovering the natural world around him, playing sports, making lifelong friends, and turning his parents' hair grey with worry. After high school he followed the call of the wild and enrolled in Paul Smith's College of Forestry. Shortly after receiving his associate degree there, he moved west to study engineering at Clarkson University and went on to work as an engineer in nuclear power on the east coast. Mike settled in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1984 with his wife, Carolyn, and began his 31-year career as an engineer at General Electric. They started their family and by 1990 they had three intelligent and beautiful little girls.
As a father, Mike embraced every opportunity to share his love, mind, and life with his girls. Some of his happiest moments were spent close to his daughters coaching sports, traveling to competitions, exploring the world, hiking in the woods, and walking together around the pond. The love he had for his family extended to those around him. He epitomized the definition of a good neighbor and took every opportunity to help others. Well-respected and successful as a professional engineer, Mike brought his skills out of the office to become a leader in the Landen Community. He developed ambitious, detailed plans to help ensure the integrity of the local lake and green spaces, while always keeping an eye out for the opportunity to make a positive difference.
Michael J. Quinn was a man of great integrity, wit, strength, and love. His journey has left the world a better place and those who knew him will ensure his bright light burns on. He will be deeply missed, but his life will be greatly honored.
