IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary E.
Osenbaugh
December 24, 1933 – October 2, 2023
Mary Evelyn (Swegle) Osenbaugh, just three months shy of her 90th birthday, went to her eternal rest on October 2, 2023, surrounded by her loving children, Julie Osenbaugh Schrader, David Jay Osenbaugh and Paul Curtis Osenbaugh. Mary is now reunited with her beloved husband, Dwight Lloyd Osenbaugh, her sister Nona Peters and brother Wayne Swegle, as well as dear friends Patty Ulmer, Min and Jake Ruppert and her mother, Rosamond Cowles Swegle, and father, Jay Swegle.
Left to cherish memories of their grandmother, "Mewm", are Daniel Jay (wife Christy) Schrader, John David Schrader and Stevana Lee Schrader, whom she loved, "more than they could ever know". Mary's younger brother, Alan (wife Mary) Swegle also holds dear memories of their countless phone calls over the years. Mary's extended family that will always miss her include the children of her friends Min and Jake (especially Mary's BFF Leslie Ruppert Krehnbrink) Patty Ulmer's beloved husband, Bill, and their children, Bob Ulmer and Sally Ulmer Anglin. Best Feathered Friend, Charlie the Cardinal, will also miss Mary's delightful and delighted smile!
Mary's life began in the south-central Iowa town of Liberty, a sparsely populated settlement of farmers and their families. Born at the height of the Great Depression and growing up during World War II gave Mary a lifelong appreciation for the abundance and security of her adult life. She always remembered how magical and exciting it was when her childhood farm finally got hooked up with electricity and a "party line" telephone! Mary's youthful accomplishments included winning a spelling bee, playing piano for her church and learning to fly an airplane! She met Dwight during their school years, and they were married and started a family not long after. Dwight's new career with Proctor and Gamble soon had them moving their little family from Iowa to Kansas City, then to Denver, Cincinnati, Louisville and, finally, back to Cincinnati, where they settled into their "dream home" in Terrace Park.
Dwight's untimely death at age 41 left Mary heartbroken. But, surrounded by friends and family, she soldiered on, going to work as a secretary at a small law firm and then at Proctor and Gamble. Mary eventually left her Terrace Park home and into her Forever Home in Landen, to be joined by son, companion, helpmate and Best Caregiver Ever, David.
A highlight of Mary's life was a live-in stay with Julie and her little boys in West Byfleet, Surrey, UK in the late '80s. Seeing the sights of England, meeting new friends there and sampling the food and drink gave her lifelong, precious memories. Another memorable adventure was a two-week journey through western Europe, via train, with son Paul.
Some of Mary's favorite pursuits were watching the birds and wildlife that came to visit her backyard year-round. Most mornings those visitors could look inside and see her attacking the daily crossword puzzle at the kitchen table. Mary loved to get her hands dirty tending her garden and telling dirty jokes when appropriate, which was almost always! When brother Wayne was in town nothing could keep them from hours and hours of playing Pitch, Mary's favorite card game. All this being said, Mary's very favorite endeavor was spending time with her grandchildren and watching them grow and thrive.
Friends and Family will be received at Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 129 N. Riverside Avenue, Loveland, on Thursday, October 5th, from 4 - 6 P.M. Mary will be laid to rest next to Dwight in Greenlawn Cemetery in Milford.
