Mary Margaret Chauvin, age 97, of Loveland, Ohio, passed away peacefully from natural causes, on December 15, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion. She was born on August 15, 1927, in Derry, Pennsylvania, to Calogero (Charles) and Michelina (Nana) Avampato. Mary Chauvin retained her clarity and presence of mind until the very end, gracefully staying connected to those around her with unwavering strength and understanding.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 64 years, Dr. John Hector Chauvin (2017), and her brother, Charles Michael Avampato (2023). She is survived by her four children: John Hector Chauvin Jr. (Christa), an Aerospace Engineer, of Cerritos, California.; Jeffrey Michael Chauvin (Nancy), a Dentist of Cornelius, North Carolina; David Brian Chauvin (Carol), a Physician, of Good Hart, Michigan; and Lisa Marie Bitter (Dean), an Attorney, of Loveland, Ohio. Mary was the proud grandmother of eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Mary spent 36 years of her life in Norwalk, Ohio, before retiring to Olmsted Falls, Ohio for 20 years and then moving to Loveland. She was known for her unwavering love and dedication to her family, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Along with her immediate family, Mary is survived by her three brothers: John Charles Avampato (94), Samuel Joseph Avampato (87), and Joseph Richard Avampato (84).
Mary Chauvin received an RN Diploma from Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She continued her education at the University of Pittsburgh, where she took courses on Psychiatric Nursing, which became her favorite field of study. At Pittsburgh Children's Hospital, she worked with infants until moving into Psychiatric Nursing, where she worked for several years at various hospitals. She continued to expand her knowledge throughout her life by attending courses at local colleges. After marriage, she managed the medical office for her husband's successful Internal Medicine Practice.
Mary was also very active throughout her life. She was involved in Garden and Investment Clubs, as well as Hospital Auxiliary organizations. She particularly enjoyed Elderhostel educational programs and had traveled extensively throughout the United States and Europe. Mary had a deep affection for her beloved Dobermann Pinscher dogs, enjoying their companionship and loyalty throughout her life. Mary and her husband were dedicated supporters of the Norwalk community, making generous contributions to various organizations.
Her life was full of cherished moments, and she will always be remembered for her kindness, nurturing spirit, and the joy she brought to her family. Mary's memory will continue to live on in her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many friends who loved her.
A Visitation will be held on Monday, December 30, from 9:15 to 10:15 AM, and Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM, at St. Columban Church in Loveland, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Mary's remarkable life. A celebration of life luncheon will follow immediately at St. Columban. The funeral mass will be followed by a private graveside ceremony in Norwalk, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St Columban Catholic Church in Loveland, Ohio, or plant a tree in Mary's memory .
The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported them during this difficult time. Mary's legacy of love will live on, and she will be forever cherished in the hearts of those who were fortunate to know her.
