Obituary

Marvel Loucille Rich-Ferguson, age 106, of Hamilton Township. Wife of 60 years to the late Lonnie Ferguson. Daughter of the late Edgar and Minnie (Switzer) Rich. Dear sister of the late Harriet Swigert (nee Rich) and the late J. Walter and Virgil Rich.

She would say she lived a simple life, but it was one that touched so many in her 106 years. The Rich family is recognized as a First Family of Hamilton County making Loveland, Ohio, home since 1795. In 2019, she was recognized by the Hamilton County Genealogical Society as the first living member of the Century Families honoring those who lived in the county for 100 years since 1861. The Rich family has spent much of their lives for the betterment of the community.

Marvel began serving the community as a child delivering eggs, her contribution to the family dairy that shipped milk to Cincinnati in 10-gallon cans. Her childhood stories were about walking to school to riding on the first motorized school bus, swimming at Sandy Bottoms, seeing movies, and attending dances at the Loveland Junior Hall.

As a young woman during World War II, she worked for an attorney doing county title work and when the cows weren’t milking heavy, she worked at So-Lo on the Canned Heat line. Her grandfather was a Civil War Corporal and owned the Loveland butcher shop. Her family continued to develop businesses in Loveland for decades to come as well as serving in roles in law enforcement and with the Loveland Fire Department, which still sits on the family land. Her father began as a volunteer fire fighter when the fire truck was a horse drawn engine! She was living history and always ready to give us a glimpse of it with her remarkable tales and unshaken faith of the Lord above. Those who knew her would agree we were blessed to be a part of her history.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, April 1 from 6-8 PM in the Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 129 N. Riverside Ave., Loveland, where funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 2 at 10 AM. Interment Arlington Memorial Gardens, Mt. Healthy.
