Martha A. Selzer's Obituary

Martha “Marty” A. Selzer of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on April 5, 2026, at the age of 89. Marty was the loving daughter of the late George and Mary Jeanette Selzer. Cherished sister of the late Mary (Gabriel) Hartke, Charles (Katherine) Selzer, Dorothy (G. Richard) Hagee, and Sister Jeannine Selzer, S.C. Beloved aunt of Phyllis Hartke, Marybeth Hartke, Stephen Hartke, Cecilia Guzik, Ted Hartke, Ray Hartke, Anna Fox, Tom Selzer, Rick Hagee, Rob Hagee, Mark Hagee, Jeannine Eaton, Maureen Surkamp, and the late Carol Ann Northcutt and Susanne Hartke.

Marty graduated from St. Mary High School and Mt. St. Joseph University in Cincinnati where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She went on to earn two Master’s Degrees from Miami University and Xavier University. Marty began her teaching career at Williams Ave School in Norwood and then for many years, taught English, Humanities and Drama at Indian Hill High School. She was known at Indian Hill for the many drama productions she directed and she touched many young lives. Marty was very proud of her contributions to the design of the Indian Hill High School Auditorium.

For many years Marty devoted her life to caring for her Mother, whom Marty cared for with unwavering love till the day her Mother died.

Marty was involved in numerous volunteer activities. For a number of years, once a week, Marty would read the daily newspaper to the visually impaired at Radio Reading for the Blind. In addition, Marty volunteered as Director of the Senior LifeLearn Program at Mt. St. Joseph University. She loved the local activities, trips and speakers she planned for the senior groups and did so never expecting anything in return.

Marty lived a full life and enjoyed entertaining, traveling, reading, theatre productions and sharing life with her family and friends. She was dearly loved by all, especially her many nieces and nephews, who have so many fond memories of Marty. Her strong faith, positive attitude, confidence, big smile and sense of grace, even during difficult times, was truly an inspiration.

Marty was loved by so many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and will be greatly missed!

Marty’s family would like to thank Stephanie Kelley and the staff at Barrington of Oakley Memory Care as well as the Hospice of Cincinnati nurses, for their loving care.

Friends and family will be received from 10:45am - 11:45am on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8815 E Kemper Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45249, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 12pm.

Donations in Marty’s memory may be directed towards the Cincinnati Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired or the Cancer Support Community of Greater Cincinnati - Northern Kentucky.
