Obituary

Marjorie Hallock (nee Deutzman) Neuss, beloved wife of the late Gustave Neuss, Jr. Born, March 17, 1912, at home, in Yonkers, NY. She was the daughter of Cora (Hallock) Deutzman and Lawrence Frederick Deutzman. Marjorie had been a resident in recent months at Otterbein in Maineville, OH, and died Monday, September 8, 2014, after more than 102 years of active life. Her sisters, Dorothy Leonori, Marion Deutzman, Phyllis Eichacher, Lois Howard, Murial Spahr, and brother Merritt Hallock Deutzman all preceded her, as did her husband Gustave Neuss, Jr. Loving mother of Marjorie Niesen, Barbara Moran and Gustave (Sherida) Neuss III. Dear grandmother of Michael (JoAnne) Niesen, Joseph (Lisa) Niesen, Christopher (Lisa) Niesen, Robert Lee (Teri) Moran, Paul (Amber) Moran Jr., Gustave Neuss IV, Gregory Neuss, Stephen (Heather) Neuss, Kathleen (Tony) Harmon, Jennifer (Mike) Russo and Donald Neuss. Also survived by numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Marjorie was a proud graduate of Smithtown High School, Smithtown, NY, working for The Smithtown Messenger local newspaper owned by her father. She was a great letter writer with numerous friends from her past residence communities: Smithtown and Yaphank, NY, Toledo, OH, Oak Ridge, TN, New Hartford, NY, Erie, PA and Maineville, OH. Always supportive of her husband's activities her fondest memories were assisting her husband Gus, the first Mayor of Springdale, OH. Her sewing skills, jewelry making and painting hobbies were only exceeded by her sailing exploits with her husband, especially when he was a Commodore of the Erie Pennsylvania Yacht Club. As his wife she was instrumental in establishing an auxilliary wives group, helping with seasonal events, plantings at the Club and general service projects. When in their eighties they opted to move to Maineville, OH to be near family, and as members of Good Shepherd parish they enjoyed their final years. Marjorie had been a member of the Sunrise Garden Club and Gustave Neuss, Jr. had proudly served on the Stone Harbor board there. Friends and family will be received on Saturday, September 13th from 9 to 10 AM at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 8815 E. Kemper Rd., Cinti. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday at 10 AM at the church. Entombment will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Montgomery, OH.
