Lucian "JR" Johnson, Jr., age 90, of Loveland, OH, formerly of Burning Springs, Kentucky, went home to be with the Lord on August 16, 2025.
Born on June 9, 1935, in Burning Springs, Kentucky, JR was the beloved husband of Wilma (Ponder) Johnson. Together they shared 69 years of marriage, a lifetime of devotion, love, and faith. He was a proud father of Donietta Cooper (Leonard) and Jeffrey Johnson, and a cherished grandfather to Danny Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lucian and Meda Johnson; his sister, Virgie White (Junior); brother-in-law, Clarence Ponder, brother-in-law, Robert Luce; sister-in-law, Iva Johnson, and sister-in-law, Colene Ponder.
JR is survived by his brothers, Edward Johnson (Judy) and Donald Johnson; his sister, Flossy Luce; brother-in-law, Willie Ponder; sister-in-law, Barb Fletcher (Lowell); as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
JR was a dedicated and hardworking man, spending 51 years at Formica Corporation, where he was respected for his commitment and integrity. Outside of work, he was happiest outdoors. He loved hunting, gardening, and boating. JR also loved playing cards. Some of his favorite times were spent at the card table with Wilma and their dear friends Joyce and Roger Baker, where laughter and friendship were always part of the game.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate JR's life at Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 129 N. Riverside Dr., Loveland, OH 45140, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M.-2:00 P.M., followed by the funeral service at 2:00 P.M., officiated by Pastor Travis Burke of Cozaddale Baptist Temple.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cozaddale Baptist Temple, 10632 Eltzroth Rd., Goshen, OH 45122
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, hardworking provider, and an outdoorsman who lived his life with gratitude and faith.
