Obituary

Lori Siekman was born in Sandusky, Ohio on September 9, 1954, to Carl and Bernice Gundlach. She was the third child, first daughter of Carl and Bernice. Preceding her were older brothers, David and Gary. Four years later her baby brother, Brett, was born into the family.

Lori had fond childhood memories of their home on Central Avenue and summer rides on the ferry to and from the Cedar Point amusement park.

In the fall of 1972 Lori enrolled at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. There Lori and Mark were first introduced during the 1972/1973 school year. Their paths would occasionally cross, but they did not begin to date until June 11, 1976, in Oxford while Lori was attending summer classes and Mark was there for the weekend to visit friends.

Before that first date Lori, an Education Major, had accepted a teaching position at North Ridgeville High School in North Ridgeville, Ohio just west of Cleveland. She had an apartment in Olmsted Falls, Ohio. So, for the 1976/1977 school year Mark, nearly every weekend, drove to northern Ohio to see Lori. On those occasional weekends when Mark did not visit Lori made her way to visit Mark in Cincinnati. On one of those visits to Cincinnati on October 15, 1976, Mark took Lori out to dinner and in front of a bed of pansies on Fountain Square asked Lori to marry him. Lori immediately accepted his proposal and wedding plans commenced with no delay.

On Saturday July 23, 1977, Mark and Lori were married at St. Gertrudes in Madeira with a reception held at the Madeira Manor.

Lori and Mark set up their first home in a townhouse in Loveland, Ohio. A little more than a year after that they purchased their first home, a small ranch style house at 512 Lowel Avenue in Loveland. In that home had two children, became a family and entered into the very best years of their lives. Lori was the most beautiful mother to be ever. On March 9, 1980, Valerie Marie came into their lives. Four years later Michael William was born to Lori and Mark to complete their family.

Lori was the greatest mother to Valerie and Mike. Lori was a mother to their children first and always. Lori loved their children from the time they were each conceived and for the remainder of her life. She cared for them, worried about them, and cried for them. Lori made certain that Valerie and Mike could take advantage of every opportunity available to them.

Beyond her duties as a Mother Lori was the best possible wife for Mark. Mark often worked long hours causing Lori to have to carry more than her share of the home and family burdens.

With the children successfully raised to adulthood Lori returned to a profession she would come to love, teaching and working with high school age kids. Lori absolutely fed off their youth, enthusiasm and energy.

In 2014 Lori left teaching as she and Mark moved to Florida and then Texas following Mark's career opportunities. They returned to Cincinnati in 2019 where they resided in West Chester and Mason until Lori's premature death having suffered a number of years from Parkinson's Disease. Lori passed peacefully and mercifully on the morning of November 6, 2023.

Beloved daughter of the late Carl and Bernice Gundlach. Loving wife of Mark Siekman. Cherished mother of Valerie Siekman and Michael (Lisa) Siekman.
