LOIS J. SPRIGG
JANUARY 16, 1943 – MAY 23, 2026
Leaving her husband, family and friends in stunned disbelief, Lois Jean Sprigg (née Teske) suddenly and inexplicably went into cardiac arrest and departed this world on May 23, 2026. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 56 years, Richard Sprigg, and her loving children Susan (Justin Dudley) and Stephen (Megan) Sprigg. Also surviving are the grandchildren who so enriched her later life, and whose lives she enriched as well, Maxwell and Margaret Sprigg-Dudley and Jesse and Hannah Sprigg; niece Cheryl (Joe) Sessa in New Jersey, like a second daughter to her, they spoke together every day; her sister, Arlene Zotollo; and many other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Helen (Lottermann) Teske, and two sisters, Helen Cuttitta and Lila Justus.
Lois was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother, whose love and nurture were the guiding force in her family. For decades every birthday and family holiday was always celebrated in her home, which she extravagantly but tastefully decorated in the theme of the season or the event. For each occasion she prepared meals for every individual taste in quantities to ensure that the children and grandchildren would get to take home plenty of leftovers. Lois brought that love, kindness, and dedication to the service of her church and her God through numerous women's groups at Church Of The Saviour UMC and earlier at Pleasant Ridge Presbyterian. Her meticulous crafting skills were legendary; she provided the decorations for countless church events, and her top quality creations were also in demand for consignment in craft shops. Her holiday decorations and centerpieces have been saved and treasured in countless homes of relatives, friends, and church acquaintances who put them on display each season.
Lois was born at home on January 16, 1943, and grew up in Hackensack, New Jersey. There for many years she worked as a secretary for the Internal Revenue, until a new revenue officer arrived from Cincinnati in 1966…the rest is history, they were married in 1969. When the children were born, she became a full-time mom making a wonderful home for her family, first in New Jersey, then Kalamazoo, Michigan, and since 1976 in Cincinnati. When the children were sufficiently grown, she resumed her working career, holding secretarial positions at a number of companies, most recently in the Princeton City School District until her retirement. Her subsequent years were spent serving her family, her friends, her church, and her community. While the suddenness of her departure has been extremely difficult to absorb, we are left with the wonderful memories that she helped create.
A memorial service for Lois will be held at Church of the Saviour, 8005 Pfeiffer Road in Montgomery, on June 24 at 2 P.M., with an opportunity to greet the family at 1 P.M. until the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Church of the Saviour or a charity of one’s choice.
