Obituary

Lois M. (nee Wells) Barnes

Born on January 6, 1929, in the Village of Loveland, the youngest of 5 siblings, William Jr., Doris,

Marcella, and Bertram, were born to the union of William Sr. and Martha Wells, who preceded her in

death. Loving Mother of 10, 4 sons preceded her in death: Stephen, Adams twins, and Cameron. Her six

children survive her: Madeline Nelson, Terresa Adams, Joan (Bernie) Gibson, Bradford Adams, Lynora

Hill, and Jalayne (David) Sabine. Twice wed John Leon Adams, father of her children & Will James

Barnes, who also preceded her in death. She was loved beyond measure, the matriarch of the family of

14 grandchildren (Curtis, Demeshea, Dion, Terrell, Lonnell, Ketorah, Nikole, Tara, Amber, Damyn,

Natasha, Allan, Meagan, Mariah K.), 35 great-grandchildren, 40 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of

nieces and nephews. Special mention to Scotty Gordon and Nate Dunson.

Lois attended Loveland Village Schools until the 12th grade. At 14, she learned a strong work ethic by

working for private families. She was hand-selected to work for a Secret Service Agent who escorted JF

Kennedy into the office and had the pleasure of working with Mr. Beebeard, who held the world record

for growing a beard of 17,500 honeybees in 1979. She was an avid researcher, holding a position at the

Milford Board of Education and private educators, where she retired. During the years after retirement,

she continued to work for the second and third generations of families that held her in the highest

regard and kept in contact with her to the end. She was also a proud member of the Loveland Historical

Society. Her research was precise and methodical, gaining access to information traced back hundreds of

years. She played a key role in the proclamation of Ballew-Broaddus Family Day on Sept 12th. She spent

over 50 years researching her family's history.

She was baptized in the Little Miami River on Kemper Road in Loveland on October 4, 1944. She joined

Mt. Olive Baptist church, now known as First Missionary Baptist, under Pastor Christopher Hamilton. She

had an unwavering faith and supported causes such as the March of Dimes, DAV, Susan G. Komen, St.

Jude Children's Hospital, and several other non-profit organizations.

To know Lois was to know FAMILY. She made everyone feel that. She made everyone feel loved and part of something special. She will forever be missed and a pillar in our Loveland Community.
