Obituary

Lila Wing passed away peacefully on July 2, 2024, at the age of 79 in Cincinnati, Ohio, after an unexpected and brave battle with pneumonia. Born on July 22, 1944, in Luverne, MN, the daughter of Floyd R. and Joy A. Smith. Shortly after her birth, the family moved to Worthington, MN, where she grew up in the heartland which instilled in her a warm spirit and a resilient character that would define her throughout her life.

Lila's journey through life was one marked by love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to her family. She was the beloved wife of James M. "Jim" Wing, with whom she shared almost 60 years of marriage filled with mutual respect, devotion, and countless cherished moments. Together, they built a family and a home that was a haven of happiness and unconditional love.

A cherished mother, Lila provided a nurturing and joyous environment for her children, Mike (Kelly) Wing and Michele (Phil) Huff. She was a guiding light in their lives, always encouraging them to pursue their dreams with kindness and determination. As a devoted grandmother, she doted on her grandchildren, Emma Wing, Zac Huff, and Olivia Huff, each of whom brought immense joy and pride to her heart.

Lila's love extended to her siblings, Loni (the late Jim) Hutton, Dianne (the late Nino) Casareto, and Shelly Kissinger. She was also a caring aunt to many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in her heart. Her ability to make each family member feel loved and important was a testament to her generous spirit.

After completing her post-secondary education, Jim and Lila were married February 27th, 1965. They moved to Fargo, North Dakota and Lila worked so Jim could finish pharmacy school at North Dakota State University. When Jim started his career, Lila dedicated herself to her family as a stay-at-home mother. She later worked as an executive secretary for several years, where she was appreciated for her friendly demeanor and her ability to make everyone feel welcome. Her warmth and humor left a lasting impression on all who crossed her path.

Lila was a woman of faith and an active member of Sycamore Presbyterian Church, where she found strength and fellowship. She enjoyed participating in church-planned trips, embracing the opportunity to meet new people and explore new places. Her community involvement and presence were sources of inspiration to many within her church family.

Beyond her family and church life, Lila had a vibrant array of interests that brought her and those around her much joy. She was an avid golfer, card and game player, known for her sharp wit and competitive spirit. Her favorite day of the week was Tuesday when she got to play Mahjong with her dear friends. Her love for playing slots was matched only by the laughter that followed her wherever she went. Lila was also incredibly creative, painting Christmas ornaments for those she cared about, a tradition that will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.

Those who knew Lila would describe her as friendly, kind, creative, caring, funny and filled with a jovial spirit. Her ability to light up a room with her humor and her talent for making friends wherever she went were unparalleled. Lila's legacy is one of joy, kindness, and the beautiful simplicity of a life well-lived.

Lila Wing's life was a tapestry of love, laughter, and faith and family. She will be deeply missed by her loved ones and by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her spirit and memory will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all those touched by her extraordinary presence.
