Larry L. Mohrfield of Pleasant Plain, OH. Born on March 29, 1938 in Cincinnati, OH. Went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at the age of 76.
Beloved husband of 53 years to Shirley J. (Kattelmann) Mohrfield. Loving father of Ginni (Mike) Sullivan, Vonda (Dan) Koopmans and Kristi (Joe) Steele. Proud grandfather of Katie Sullivan, Maggie Sullivan, Kelsi Steele, Jackie Sullivan, Brandi Steele, Alex Koopmans and Grant Steele. Dear brother of the late Milton and Jerry Mohrfield. Caring brother-in-law of Dolores (Beryl) Chandler, Sandy (Gary) Bates, Pat Mohrfield and the late Jean Mohrfield. Cherished son of the late Walter and Georgia (Thomas) Mohrfield. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
An entrepreneur at heart, Larry started a dairy farm in 1960 in Pleasant Plain, Ohio. He purchased and bred a quality herd of Holstein cattle and developed a competitive herd of show cattle. In 1974 a devastating fire destroyed L/M Animal Farms, a new pet products business that he had started in 1970. This disaster led to his becoming a founding member of the Harlan Township Fire Department.
He soon began to rebuild the business and grew it into a very successful international pet products company. He sold the business to Hartz Mountain in 1997 and began Tri-State Juice Dist. with his son-in-laws. He was also instrumental in purchasing ground for the new Goshen High School.
He was an active member in the community serving 30 years as a Soil and Water Conservation Supervisor and was named Warren County Conservationist of the Year in 2010.
Over the years he fell in love with Bracken County, KY. where his mother was born. Soon, he and his wife Shirley began restoring historical buildings in Augusta, KY. including the Parkview Country Inn, The Augusta General Store, The Augusta Irish Pub and a trolley used for tourism. He recently restored a historic church in Augusta.
In the last 10 years Larry began Mohrfield Farms, an international pet foods company. Larry has been recognized for many accomplishments including induction into the Butler County Basketball Hall of Fame and the Cincinnati Entrepreneur Award. In 2010 he became a Kentucky Colonel and the following year became a Kentucky Admiral.
