Obituary

Marlene "Laney" Finn (nee Wehren) of Montgomery. Beloved wife of 50 years to James R. Finn, Jr. Loving mother of Melissa (James) Hall, Michael Finn, Andrew (Jane) Finn and Molly (Mark) Petre. Cherished grandmother of Sydney, Bailey and Madeline Hall and Elliott Petre. Dear sister of Trudy Wehren. Passed away May 27, 2017 at the age of 72. Laney earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from SUNY (Potsdam, NY) and a Masters of Education from the University of Pittsburgh. She taught 1 year at Penfield (Rochester, NY), 4 years at Fox Chapel (Pittsburgh, PA), and 12 at St. Columban (Loveland, OH). She also substitute taught prior to joining and after she retired from St. Columban for 6 years, as well as 3 years at Indian Hill and Sycamore School Districts (Cincinnati, OH). During the 30 years that she took off from teaching to raise her family, she was very active in the Oakmont, PA Women's Club and Garden Club. In addition, she volunteered as a Girl Scout Cookie Mom, as an aid in the schools her children attended in Oakmont, PA, Charlottesville, VA and Cincinnati, OH and was the publicist for gymnastic meets for 6 years at Kids First. In the 3 years she had after she retired from St. Columban, she was an instructor at Huntington Learning Center in Montgomery, OH and a volunteer in the knitting ministry of Good Shepherd Church where she knit several hundred hat and scarf sets for under privileged children in Kentucky. She will always be loved and remembered by all the people that knew her and the students she taught. Family and friends will be received Sunday, June 11 from 2-5 PM in the Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 129 N. Riverside Ave., Loveland. Mass of Christian Burial will held Monday, June 12 at 10:30 AM at St. Columban Church, 894 Oakland Rd., Loveland. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Columban Tuition Assistance Fund, 894 Oakland Rd, Loveland, OH 45140.
