IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Keith Alan
Jensen
March 29, 1951 – December 20, 2022
Keith Alan Jensen
March 29, 1951 - December 20, 2022
Keith Alan Jensen, 71, passed away on Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at home in Montgomery, Ohio. He was born on March 29, 1951 in Newport News, Virginia, the oldest child of Jack and Afton Jensen, moving shortly thereafter to Napa, California, where he grew up. He attended Brigham Young University, earning bachelor's and master's degrees in accounting. He served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Minnesota Manitoba Mission. Keith began a 22-year accounting career with Deloitte Haskins & Sells in San Francisco, California, where he met and enjoyed a sweet courtship with Nan Heidi Walters. Keith and Nan were married in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple in 1977. After starting their family in Concord, California, Keith, Nan, and their children spent four years in New Canaan, Connecticut while he worked in New York City as an audit partner and was involved with the merger that created Deloitte & Touche.
In 1990, Keith's job relocated the family to Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1997, he left his accounting career to become a Senior Vice President and later the Chief Financial Officer at American Financial Group, where he worked for 16 years. One of his final projects before retiring in 2013 was overseeing the construction of the Great American Tower in Cincinnati, which he considered "the opportunity of a lifetime." Throughout his career, Keith enjoyed meaningful associations with professional colleagues and friends, who appreciated his integrity, financial expertise, humble leadership style, and example of living a healthy work-life balance.
Keith loved the mountains, and he enjoyed years of backpacking and skiing in the Sierra Nevadas and Rockies. He was a legendary scoutmaster and a council member with the Boy Scouts of America in California and Connecticut. He was a lifelong tennis player and enjoyed cheering for the Cincinnati Reds. He and Nan had many opportunities to travel the world together, including trips to Peru, Italy, Kenya, Israel, Nepal, and the Baltics.
Keith's life was guided by his faith in and testimony of Jesus Christ. He served in lay clergy positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including as a bishop of the Montgomery Ward for seven years and as the president of the Cincinnati East Stake for ten years. In these capacities, he not only guided the direction of local and regional congregations, but he also blessed the lives of individuals he served, ministered to, and counseled with. Many people have shared stories of how Keith has touched their lives.
Keith's greatest joy in life was his family. He adored his wife, Nan, throughout their 45 year marriage. He was an engaged father who loved, taught, and supported each of his five children. Family traditions, reunions, and frequent gatherings at home were important to Keith, especially as the family grew with the addition of in-laws and grandchildren. In recent years, he wrote, "If I were to name my highest priority it would be to have my family sharing time together, working and learning together, and making a difference for good in our church, our community, and with each other."
Even while living with Parkinson's disease for the last fifteen years of his life, Keith remained constant and faithful in his commitment to service in his church and community and in his love for his family, especially his wife. After recovering from a recent hospitalization, Keith spent the last week of his life attending music concerts for grandchildren, hosting friends at home, and visiting with longtime work associates.
Keith is survived by his beloved wife, Nan Jensen, and their five children, Camie Christensen (Matt) of Alpharetta, Georgia; Jared Jensen (Dani) of Cincinnati; Amber Jensen (Matt McDonald) of Provo, Utah; Taylor Jensen (Hayley) of Prosper, Texas; and Andrew Jensen (Caitlin) of Arlington, Virginia. He is the adored Papa of fourteen grandchildren with more to come. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his four siblings, Corinne Nelson (Eric), Lynnette Jones (Rick), Janeen Kelley (Doug), and Michael Jensen, as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
