Obituary

On December 11, 2014 Julia Dembitsky Schappell age 85, passed away peacefully at The Lodge Care Center after a brave battle with uterine cancer. Julia was born in Forrestville, PA on February 5, 1929 to parents Mary Urban Dembitsky and Peter Dembitsky. Julia was one of 8 siblings who preceded her in death - Anna,(Czap) Michael, Steven, John, Wasel, Katherine (Watson) and Andrew who grew up together in Minersville, PA. Their father died when Julia was 16. In 1948 Julia married Elmer George Schappell of Pottsville, PA. In 1952, Julia and Elmer moved to Fairless Hills PA and raised their 3 children. Julia was widowed at age 40 in 1969. After her husband's death, Julia returned to school and earned a degree as a Home Health Care Provider. She loved helping people and taking care of the elderly. She also worked for the Pennsbury School District as a matron and as a classroom aide at The Summit School. Julia was a loving and devoted mother to Carol Starman (James ) of Bonita Springs, Florida, Kenneth (Karen) of Loveland, Ohio and Alan( Mary Ann) of Green Valley, Arizona. She was a devoted and beloved grandmother to Kelly Starman Smith ( Steven) James Starman (Jeanne), Kristina Schappell Reitenour (Brian) Kevin Schappell( Molly) and Jessica Schappell Doyle (Brian). She was thrilled to have 5 great-grandchildren - Braden, Elise, Kennedy, Henry and Wesley. Julia was a founding, lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Fairless Hills where she was a member of the choir, Women's Guild and the Clown Ministry. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved bringing laughter to all those around her! She was well-known for her antics at the annual church bazaar and her enthusiasm for candy making! In later years, Julia resided at Lamont Plaza in Fairless Hills before moving to assisted living and nursing care in Loveland, OH. Julia was funny, kind, selfless, resilient, forgiving and full of unwavering love for her family. She will be missed so very much. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 12:30 on February 7 at the First United Methodist Church in Fairless Hills. Friends and family are welcome to attend. Entombment of her ashes will be at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made in Julia's name to The First United Methodist Church in Fairless Hills.
