Joseph "Joe" H. Steele III of Goshen, OH, passed away on September 28, 2025, at the age of 81. Joe was born on August 17, 1944, in Loveland, OH to Joseph Jr. and Eva Steele.
Joe was the beloved husband of the late Bonnie Sue (nee Mason) Steele, loving father of Kim Fite, Joe (Kristi) Steele, Stacey (Jim) Spaeth, Krystal (Dan) Marsh, Heather Elkins, Sam (Amy) Steele and step-father of Bill (Tori) Herrera and Chrissy Herrera Sawyer, caring grandfather of 18 grandchildren: Kirsten (Duane) Sowers, Hunter Fite, Kelsi (Brian) Mello, Brandi (Pierce) Elmore, Grant Steele, Jessica (Will) Stevenson, Stephanie (Gary Moore) Abbott, Courtney (Chris) Vome, Ethan Marsh, Luke Marsh, Jack Elkins, Addison Elkins, Brooke Elkins Preston Steele, Macee Steele and step-grandchildren of Mikaela Herrera, Tyler Herrera and Lilly Lee Sawyer, proud great-grandfather of 15 great-grandchildren, dear brother of Walter Thomas (Kathie) Steele, Susan Golden and the late Connie Steele and Bill Steele, brother-in-law of Linda Steele, cherished son of the late Joseph Hulen Jr. and Eva Mae (nee Nutick) Steele. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and many dear friends.
Joe proudly served in the United States Army in the 101st Airborne Division during the Vietnam Era. Joe was a lifelong Goshen resident and devoted Goshen Warrior. Joe was part of the Goshen High School football chain gang for over 40 years. He is a member of the Goshen High School Hall of Fame. He retired from Cincinnati Paperboard. Joe enjoyed the beaches in Florida while sipping on a Bloody Mary. He also enjoyed attending many sporting events for his children and grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 4 PM to 8 PM on Wednesday, October 1 at Tufts Schildmeyer Funeral Home, 1668 St. Rt. 28, Goshen. Services will be held at 10 AM on Thursday, October 2 at the Goshen Methodist Church, 6710 Goshen Rd., Goshen, OH 45122.
The interment will take place with military honors at Greenlawn Cemetery, Milford, OH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in memory of Joe Steele to The Steele Brothers Military Scholarship Fund, at this time, c/o Joe Steele, 2171 Gibbs Rd., Goshen, OH 45122, pending creation of the Steele Brothers Military Scholarship non-profit fund.
