Obituary

Joseph Charles "Chuck" Hueil Jr., 78, passed away peacefully Friday, March 8, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Beth (nee Lyons) Hueil and their children, Geoff (Kim) Hueil, Amy (Brian) Kaesemeyer, and Emily (Scott) Cartaya. He was the proud grandfather to seven grandchildren: Ben, Adam and Abby Hueil; Jacob and Taylor Kaesemeyer; and Cameron and Landon Cartaya. In addition, he is survived by his siblings, Diana (Bill) Hueil, Lisa (Rick) Conner, Cynthia Amneus, and Douglas Hueil, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Rosemary Hueil.

Chuck's father and mother moved from Cincinnati to Washington D.C. just as WW II began. He was born in Alexandria, Virginia, on March 22, 1945 preceded by his older sister, Diana. They lived in Alexandria until the end of the war when the family of four returned to Cincinnati. They lived in Miamitown until 1952 before moving to Bridgetown where Chuck's younger three siblings were born.

Chuck was an engineer from the very beginning. He consistently had some type of project in process such as a beautifully crafted flint lock rifle, a full size dune buggy to be ridden on the "dunes of Bridgetown," and a shoe box size non-stop circulating light machine. Chuck always had an interest in how things worked and was known to take apart radios and put them back together just for the fun of it. Always the math whiz, he attended Elder High School in the era of slide rules and went on to receive a degree in engineering from the University of Dayton.

Chuck was a person who realized what God-given gifts were, embraced them, and then excelled at using them for the benefit of those around him. The combination of his natural curiosity, his work ethic, his positive attitude, and his willingness to roll up his sleeves and dive in, led to many accomplishments throughout his lifetime. One could mention all the products he helped develop or all the patents he had earned. While he was very proud of these things, what energized him the most was solving problems in order to help others. He truly wanted to make a difference in the world. You could see this in the passion he showed while working in the medical device industry for so many years and more recently while volunteering for May We Help, a non-profit organization that designs custom devices to help those in need. Chuck was able to make incredibly innovative products while earning the respect and admiration of his peers.

Chuck was also a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. He spent countless hours supporting his family and his grandchildren. He enjoyed creating and building things in his workshop at home, preparing bird house kits for Family Promise, listening to music, traveling with his family and church friends, embarking on adventures around the city with his grandchildren, cooking and baking with the family, cheering for his grandchildren in their extracurricular activities, and hosting gatherings with both family and friends. Chuck was an active member of Sycamore Presbyterian Church serving as an elder, an usher, and a chair of both the trustees and the stewardship committee.

Services will be held at Sycamore Presbyterian Church on March 16, 2024. Visitation will be from 10:00-11:00 am followed by a memorial service from 11:00-12:00. Lunch will be provided following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Chuck's honor to May We Help where he used his legendary engineering skills to build custom devices for people with disabilities.
